Overview
The Scientific Article Writing program (SAW) consists of a series of workshops on how to write a scientific article for Master and PhD students.
It is defined as an active learning process in which students work on the construction of a scientific journal article (Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion). Papers will be written based on students’ results and data from their ongoing (or completed) thesis. Furthermore, unlike traditional writing modules, students will acquire the ability to think and argue logically and ethically, ensuring equitable discussions.
The SAW program is an international program in collaboration with faculty members from The University of Tokyo and The University of BIOBIO. Synchronous and asynchronous formats are used to develop active learning workshops, make it accessible for students, and enable international collaborators to take part in the programme.
Objective
The overall objectives of the SAW program are:
- Provide students a set of resources to write scientific articles
- Students acquire the competency to write scientific articles
- Encourage students to develop new research ideas
- Foster research and entrepreneurial spirit among students
Structure
The SAW programme is divided into two main parts: Training and Fostering. In the first part, Training, students work on the different parts of an article, understanding its purpose and organization. The second part, Fostering, gives students key insights on how to manage the revision process, as well as further options to disseminate and exploit their results.
Duration
SAW is an annual program structured in 2-hour online workshops every two weeks. It starts on 5th October with an Introduction session. First workshop takes place on 19th October.
Language: English
