ASUTUT - SUSTAINABLE HOUSING DESIGN

our teaching

In the sustainable housing design courses, we critically (re)imagine what 21st century living means to create societally and environmentally responsible housing architecture that responds to and anticipates challenges in a rapidly changing world.

Students explore the making of space and creation of new living qualities within the context of, for example, climate change, ageing populations, declining health and well-being, loneliness. inequalities, and finite energy, material, spatial and financial resources.

Innovative design tasks are supported by lectures, workshops and individual and group guidances and collaboration. We foster a participative and inclusive atmosphere through group work and peer-peer sharing.

Design projects are often set in the real world by working with local stakeholders and by participation in design competitions (sometimes leading to real built projects).

Sustainable Housing Design offers the following 7 week intensive studies:

  • Fundamentals of Urban Housing Design: Architectural Design IV  (FIN, year 3)
  • Societally Responsive Housing Design: Architectural Design V  (EN, year 4)
  • Experimental Architectural Design (EN, year 5)
  • Sustainable Architecture  (EN, Masters) and course weblink
  • Innovative Strategies in Architectural Design, coordinated by SPREAD colleagues in Public Building Design (year 5)

We also work with students on their Bachelor thesis (FIN, year 3) and Master’s Thesis (FIN/EN, year 5) and Doctoral research (PhD).
